I enjoyed reading @ttbrader.bsky.social‘s debut book; this was what prompted my questions about dealing with family history writing and bad actors. Her technique of alternating fictive recreations of family history with discussions of fact and source was interesting, especially as an archivist.
Ultimately, this is a book that manages both a critical eye and a realization of the humanity, however troubled or flawed, of the members of the author’s family. I look forward to her future work.

Loving @ttbrader.bsky.social ‘s innovative memoir. Written in alternating 1st & 3rd person chapters it narrates the story of its subject alongside story of its creation. Different forms of storytelling create an intimate portrait of a troubled man and simultaneously establish a distance for reflection.

“What happens if windows are opened and light catches hidden dust … what if the air from the window blows the dust into plain sight and we are forced to face it. Can we rewrite what we know as we sweep? Are we brave enough? Who and what are we left with at the end …. ? “
